Painting the Basement Floor

My basement looks unbelievable! I can’t believe the transformation after the floor has been painted. Everything is really coming together. Adding some lighting, cleaning, opening the windows, and painting has really changed this space into somewhere scary, so somewhere I can actually “be”. Granted it’s an unfinished space and is still drying, but it looks a zillion times better than it did when I bought the house. I can’t wait to finish it up and throw some rugs and a tv down there. My friends are going to love hanging out down there. I see a bar building project in the very near future.

The biggest job in painting the floor was the prep work (read about it in the previous post). Chipping away the old chunks of concrete, endless vacuuming, sweeping, cobweb removal, floor washing, moving junk from one side of the room to the other, etc. It’s definitely grunt work, and it definitely helps to have a few people help you with this (thanks MOM & DAD!!!).

My dad got some really huge rollers and some grey Valspar porch and floor paint. We used brushes to do the floor trim, and honestly, it took about an hour to do half of the 900 square foot basement. After that dried, we moved all the junk to the painted side, and did it all over again. I have to thank my parents again for the amount of work they did on this without me. I was stuck at work and came home to most of it finished. That’s right, be jealous of my awesome parents :)!!

  1. I’ve also painted the basement floor, it wasn’t too hard, and then I painted the walls and ceiling with special ceiling paint.
